West Side Story Task.

In one of our lectures with Dwayne we were tasked with thumbnailing key shots and scenes from the opening of 'West Side Story'. This was in order to practice getting down useful, meaningful thumbnails quick and efficiently. I decided for the sake of speed, I would do mine on Procreate.

I believe that my aim was to get 40 completed, so was no where near my goal for the hour we were given fir the task. However, the task, regardless, was very important for my learning as I found that I was spending far too much time on my thumbnails, and putting too much detail into them. From discovering this, my thumbnailing process for my composition and body language tasks became much more efficient, meaning I got a lot more done in shorter amounts of time. It was a vital thing to learn.

Video Notes
  • selection of angle/ view is extremely important
  • no reason for line variation and thickness
  • draws areas/ scenes she finds fascinating
    • all about composition
  • adjusts mistakes on the page
  • draws on large foam board on location
    • spends a long time finding most interesting scene
      • sometimes stands rather than sitting to find more dynamic view
  • adds colour with coloured pencil
  • uses both a brush and thin, scratchy dip pen to create varied lines
    • begins with brush and then adds details with dip pen
      • almost uses brush to map out scene for her piece
